We had a wonderful time in Yellowstone Park this weekend- the last weekend for car traffic through most of the Park. The weather was mostly sunny but cool. We were surprised to see a huge grizzly bear at Elk Park. There are large herds of elk near Swan Lake Flats and the swans are there too. Every day more trumpeter swans arrive there and on the Yellowstone River through Hayden Valley. The swans are beautiful and we loved to hear them honking. The young swans are almost the same size as the parents but are a light gray with a red beak. They are so beautiful when they fly. At Hellroaring we were amazed to see a thousand head of elk on Thursday and Friday and then they were gone the rest of the weekend. There were elk all over Mammoth too. The big bulls we viewed during the rut are not visible close up. more…
